Find Any File (FAF) is a powerful multi-criteria file finding tool for Mac. Contrary to Spotlight, it doesn't use a database, but instead uses a quick search operation of the file system driver. This allows you to search for file attributes such as name, creation and modification dates, file size, and even plain text inside the file.

Find Any File (FAF) is a powerful multi-criteria file finding tool for Mac. Contrary to Spotlight, it doesn't use a database, but instead uses a quick search operation of the file system driver. This allows you to search for file attributes such as name, date, size, kind, etc., and you can find files that Spotlight can't find, for example, files within bundles and packages and files inside folders that are usually excluded by Spotlight search.

Note:

FAF can't search file content other than plain text (unformatted), so don't expect it to be a good alternative to Spotlight.

Spotlight is still the best tool for searching for text in Mails, Word and PDF documents, and similar files (the results of which can be enhanced with Tembo or also available from the App Store).
